August 25, 2021 0 By 007 TravelersSir Thomas Sean Connery would have celebrated his 91st birthday today. He was born on 25 of August 1930 in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, Scotland. Sean Connery died on 31st of October 2020.
Sean Connery was a Scottish actor and producer. The first actor to portray James Bond 007 in film in 1962. He played the character five times in 1960’s (“Dr. No” – 1962, “From Russia with Love” – 1963, “Goldfinger” – 1964, “Thunderball” – 1965 and “You Only Live Twice” – 1967). He came back after absence of one Bond film and was back as Bond in 1971’s “Diamonds Are Forever“. His final appearance in Bond films was 1983’s “Never Say Never Again“, which was a remake of “Thunderball“. Once more he gave his voice to the character of Bond. This was a videogame of “From Russia with Love“, which was made in 2005.
One memorable moment of Sean Connery’s life is the winning of an Academy Award. He got the Oscar in 1987, for playing the character of police officer Jim Malone in Brian De Palma‘s “The Untouchables“.
Connery has many great films under his belt. Just to name a few: “Marnie“, 1964, “The Hill” (1965), “The Man Who Would Be King” (1975), “A Bridge Too Far” (1977), “The Name of the Rose” (1986), “Highlander” (1986), “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” (1989), “The Rock” (1996) and “Entrapment” (1999). He has won also two BAFTA Awards (one being a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award), and three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award and a Henrietta Award.
Sean Connery announced his retirement of acting on 8 June 2006. He has a son Jason Connery (born 1963) with Diane Cilento. Connery had been married to Micheline Roquebrune since 1975.
Connery was knighted by Elizabeth II at an investiture ceremony at Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh on 5 July 2000.
