In Memoriam: Michael Byrne – “Admiral Kelly” – HMS Bedford

British actor Michael Byrne has died at the age of 82. Byrne was born in Hampstead, North London, on 7 November 1943. He was the son of a single mother and cook, Helen Byrne. Michael Byrne studied acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama with support from the Freud Institute.

Byrne died on the 20th of June 2026. For the Bond World he was known as HMS Bedford’s Admiral Kelly in “Tomorrow Never Dies” (1997) where Pierce Brosnan played 007.

Byrne also acted with Sean Connery in “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” in 1989 in a role of Vogel and “A Bridge Too Far” in 1977 where Byrne part was Lt. Col Giles Vandeleur. He also acted in “The Saint” (1997) as Vereshagin, Tretiak’s Aide (a movie where we can heard briefly Roger Moore‘s voice as Car Radio Announcer).
