Happy 90th birthday Dame Judi Dench!
December 9, 2024Dame Judith Olivia Dench was born on 9th of December 1934 and turns 90 today!
Dench made her professional debut in 1957 with the Old Vic Company. Over the following few years she performed in several of Shakespeare’s plays, in such roles as Ophelia in Hamlet, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and Lady Macbeth in Macbeth.
An eight-time Academy Award nominee, Dench won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Queen Elizabeth I in Shakespeare in Love (1998). Her other Oscar-nominated roles are for Mrs Brown (1997), Chocolat (2000), Iris (2001), Mrs Henderson Presents (2005), Notes on a Scandal (2006), Philomena (2013), and Belfast (2021).
For Bond world she is best known as M, James Bond’s boss first in “GoldenEye” (1995), and appeared in all Pierce Brosnan‘s Bond movies: “Tomorrow Never Dies” (1997), “The World Is Not Enough” (1999) and “Die Another Day” (2002). She continued acting as M also in Daniel Craig‘s 007 movies: “Casino Royale” (2006), “Quantum of Solace” (2008), “Skyfall” (2012) where her character M died. She made a brief appearance also in “SPECTRE” (2015).
