“Bond was eating a breakfast of plain yoghurt topped with fruit and berries, followed by two eggs, scrambled, on a wholemeal toast. A plain, functional breakfast in a plain, functional hotel. Clean and modern, with that indefinable civilised Continental feel to it. What in England characterless and bland – a Premier Inn, or a Travelodge – here, in Budapest, felt somehow sophisticated and chic in its efficient simplicity.

Bond scooped the last spoonful of yoghurt into his mouth and moved onto his eggs.

He finished his meal with a cup of jet-black coffee and went out to see what the day had to offer. He was wearing a lightweight, knee-length, charcoal grey, woollen overcoat, and a quarter-zip, merino top in a paler shade of grey over a plain white t-shirt. Black trousers and a pair of black desert boots completed his outfit. Monochrome, anonymous, practical. Smart without being snowy.”
