On 13 January 2023, just over a week after his 65th birthday, Julian Sands, a dedicated mountaineer, went missing while hiking in Mount Baldy, California, in the San Gabriel Mountains northeast of Los Angeles. The investigation was hindered by severe storms that occurred shortly after Sands went missing. His car was located on 18 January. The following day, it was reported that Sands’s three adult children had joined the ground search for their father, with his son Henry, along with an experienced climber, retracing the route his father is believed to have taken. According to reports, Sands’s mobile phone was last tracked from a ping on 15 January, with no further pings, suggesting it had run out of power.

On 24 June, human remains were found by hikers in the area where Sands had disappeared. The remains were positively identified as Sands’ on 27 June 2023. (Wikipedia)

Sands gave his voice to Major Boothroyd (Q) in a series of BBC radio dramas. He portrayed as Q in “From Russia with Love“, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service“, “Thunderball” and “Moonraker“.

Sands hasn’t acted in Bond films, but has acted in films with Bond actors: “The Doctor and the Devils” (1985) with Timothy Dalton and “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) with Daniel Craig.

We cannot imagine the pain and heartache his family and friends are feeling. We are praying for peace and comfort.
